The time has finally come: Sophia’s Lounge is opening today.
You may be asking, “What is Sophia’s Lounge?”
Here’s what you need to know.
Location and hours:
Find it on 5th Street on the ground floor of the Ivey’s Hotel, essentially across the street from Dandelion Market. They’ll be open this weekend from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Food and drink situation:
Cocktails range from $13-$18 and are some of the best you’ll find in Charlotte. Look out for the Walking the Wire, The Oasis and Where’s the Honey?
The food menu will consist of things like small plates from the minds behind 5Church’s kitchen, and will feature items like Scotch Duck Egg, a charcuterie board and Lamb Tartare.
Vibe:
Here is what makes all the difference to me – Sophia’s has a straight up NYC cocktail lounge vibe.
Think chill lounge music (Massive Attack, Zero 7) all the way to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and décor that’s elegant but not over the top. The atmosphere is comforting and not stuffy. Sophia’s hits all the right notes when it comes down to vibe.
The focal point of Sophia’s is the mood the décor brings and how you feel while you’re relaxing with a drink and some food. It’s not a place where you have to shout to hear the person next to you or a place where it’s so crowded that you can’t move – it’s a place where you can truly get an experience from not only the music, but the decor, the drinks and the food.
It will be capacity controlled in order to keep from becoming overcrowded and having the vibe ruined, so make sure to make reservations here.
Fun fact:
The first name of Queen Charlotte’s, for whom our city is named, is Sophia, hence the name of the place.
I’m so glad to see this finally open and I can’t wait to see what the folks behind 5Church have in store for the future of Sophia’s.
