As rent in Charlotte skyrockets, affordable apartments in great locations seem harder to find.

I’m a recent college grad in search of a relatively nice and safe place to live without burning through all of my savings. The apartment search can be exhausting, so I’ve narrowed down a list of places in Myers Park for about $1,000. Some aren’t currently available for rent, but don’t discount them — they could become available soon.

Selwyn Village Condominiums

Rent: Roughly about $1,000 for a 2-bedroom. Prices vary because these are rented privately.

Location: Wakefield Drive. The location is great — right near Park Road Shopping Center and within walking distance to bars on Montford.

How to get it: None are currently available, but check back, because these go quickly.

The Colony Apartments

Rent: It’s $1,087 per month for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom.

Location: 3701 Roxborough Parkway. It’s across the street from Morrison Place, which is home to Yafo Kitchen, Earth Fare and Barnes & Noble. So all that money you’ll save on rent (and should be putting toward retirement) will now be spent on Chicken Shawarma bowls.

How to get it: None of the 2 bedroom units are currently available, but there are some 3 bedroom, 2½ bathroom units available for $1,459-$1,519 a month.

Scotland Colony Condominiums

Rent: Approximately $1,000 a month for a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment.

Location: Lynnwood Drive. Tucked on a quiet street off of Selwyn Avenue, the location couldn’t be better. Park Road Shopping Center is only a 15-minute walk away via the greenway and it’s within walking distance of shops and restaurants on Selwyn Avenue. The apartments are small, but homey, and there’s tons of parking.

How to get it: You’ll have to be a little bit patient. There are no current openings, but word on the street is that a couple are opening up in the next few months.
