Golden Cow Creamery’s Ice Cream Bike
Golden Cow opened to rave reviews last summer in South End. Now they’re taking their unique handcrafted ice creams (including the wildly popular Dunkaroos flavor) on the road with a new freezer cart on wheels.
The handmade cart has a special freezer that charges up overnight and maintains sub-zero temperatures in 90-degree heat without power, which will come in handy when Charlotte once again relocates to the surface of the sun from June through September.

The cart will carry all the same flavors as the shop, which includes 6 core flavors (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, mint chocolate chip, salted Oreo and Dunkaroos) and 4 monthly flavors (which always include 1 vegan option).
They’ll be serving pre-scooped cups for $4.50 (sorry, no cones on the cart for now) as well as ice cream sandwiches for $6. The ice cream sandwiches — sea salt chocolate chip cookies with salted Oreo ice cream or funfetti sugar cookies with Dunkaroo ice cream — are made with Gateau Baking Company cookies.

The Golden Cow bike will be rolling into LoSo where they’ll be set up at Great Wagon Road Distilling Co. from 12 – 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays starting in May. They are also working on an Uptown location for weekday afternoon service.
Wheelys Coffee Bike
Wheelys, a global chain of more than 900 coffee bikes in 73 countries, will welcome its first Charlotte mobile cafe this spring.
The bike will make its debut at VegFest this Saturday, April 29. After that, owner Juan Pablo Troya says it will be set up at the corner of Trade & Tryon.

Wheelys has a number of different cart options in its fleet. Troya has purchased the Wheelys 5 (above), a tricked out bike with running water, Wi-Fi, a solar panel, speakers, a 3-burner stove and more. It also has options to expand with ice cream, crepe and juice compartment add-ons, but Troya says he’ll be focusing on coffee due to permit restrictions.
The bike will be up and running once Troya hires a barista.
