Carolina Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson is living up to his nickname “Big Money” off the field as well.

Johnson is spending a whopping $3.3 million to build out a restaurant in the historic fire station on 5th Street, recently filed building permits show. The total could certainly go even higher.

For comparison, permits for the barbershop and speakeasy coming to South Boulevard from the Mac’s Speed Shop people totaled about $750,000. That figure doesn’t represent the final cost.

Johnson has spent years working on the project. Looks like construction is inching closer.
