When I first reported on the Ivey’s Hotel in 2015 I mentioned the elegance it was going to bring to the market, the unique nature of the project and the incredible detail that will be utilized. I must admit, in the back of my mind I was hoping it wasn’t all talk like I’ve heard from so many people.

But then I started to dig into MRK Property Development’s (the developer and owner) other hotels like the Windsor in Asheville and was instantly hit with relief. I was sure they would deliver something that Charlotte has never seen.

Well now that the opening is around the corner and I have seen a product that is nearing the finish line, I can honestly say, all the hype was well founded.

The decor is like nothing you’ve seen in a hotel around here: gorgeous 400 year old French oak covers the floors, antiques are scattered throughout the room, brick walls calm the mood, the claw foot bathtubs (limited rooms) are beyond words and the decor screams French elegance. But with all that warmth and elegance there are also plenty of modern touches like 55″-65″ flat screen TVs, Bose soundbars and Lutron touch tech for stuff like the do not disturb buttons for the doors (so cool), that really bring the rooms history into the modern era.

And those are just the rooms! For all intents and purposes Charlotte only has one five-star hotel in uptown and that is the Ritz. It’s insane to me in a market this populated with business/banking travelers that we only have one. Well the Ivey’s plans to change that by not only offering the nicest rooms you’ll see in uptown but some of the nicest amenities as well. There will be a fitness center, a beautiful lobby and a hotel bar that I can’t wait for (oh and wait until you see the grand staircase).

The hotel bar will be on 5th street (across from Dandelion Market) and will feature accordion windows that can be completely opened on nice days. The decor will carry forward the French elegance theme and will provide a perfect place to get a drink for hotel guests, but more importantly, it adds another mature drinking establishment that uptown so desperately needs.

In addition to the hotel bar there is a restaurant space on 5th street being marketed by Mike Lucier at CBRE. I love the fact that not only is this project providing uptown with some much needed five-star hotel rooms, it is also adding a boutique hotel, a killer hotel bar and a great restaurant space.

They plan to start booking their 42 rooms in March with 5th Street Bar and Lounge to open shortly afterwards. Here is their website.
