Kimpton is opening a boutique hotel in Dilworth in 2017.
This six-story hotel will feature hotel will feature 128 rooms, 4,500 square feet of event space, a restaurant, fitness center, outdoor pool with bar and a rooftop lounge with private event access.
I love this addition to the Dilworth neighborhood and the location is excellent — walkable to Atherton Mill, easy access to the light rail and about 75 yards from the soon-to-open Dilworth Tasting Room (big win for them too). I anticipate rates to be $150 – $385/night using similar Kimpton hotels as a model.
“Charlotte has long been a financial and cultural hub; it’s always been on our radar as a city that admirably balances both history and modern day appeal,” said Kimpton CEO Mike DeFrino. “Travelers to Charlotte have missed a true boutique experience.”

Here’s what it’ll likely look like.
Which neighborhoods are up next for a boutique hotel addition?
With limited or no hotel options close by, Myers Park, Elizabeth and Plaza Midwood are all perfect for boutique hotels.
I understand the risk of inconsistent demand and high cost of land in these neighborhoods, but they’re there’s a big opportunity for smart hoteliers. Sources also tell me that zoning in these neighborhoods can be a nightmare.
Our city needs more hotel rooms and the boutique Kimpton hotel in Dilworth is a welcome and classy addition to the Dilworth neighborhood. I hope to see more projects like this in our city.
