We told you about the coffee side of Corkscrew, now lets talk about their bread and butter: alcohol.
Corkscrew is located on 5th Street at the ground floor of the Vue apartment tower.
I, for one, applaud their location as it not only provides much needed nightlife away from the “center” of it all, but it adds a unique vibe not seen elsewhere Uptown.
Boasting over 45 wines by the glass they have a little bit of something for everyone (prices range from $8-$18 a glass).
In addition to that, they have over 300 wines by the bottle and if wine is not your thing they have 12 beers on tap and 25 beers by the bottle.
One thing I love about Corkscrew is that they never have a corkage fee.
That just makes the wines so much more accessible and carefree. The space is very laid back and the smooth jazz and lounge music allow you to sit back, relax with friends and actually hear each other speak.
The “honeycomb” design behind the bar is fantastic and the brick on the walls adds a warming aesthetic.
The bar has plugs (yes!) and there is plenty of seating for groups to gather and lounge.
The vibe they are going for is what I mentioned before: approachable and laid back. They want you to come in, enjoy a nice glass of wine, listen to the great tunes and just hang out. The idea is that you are always comfortable. The giant glass windows should add a pretty great pedestrian engagement component to the sidewalk as well.
Watch for the decor and walls to evolve over time as the space currently has a moved in feel, but they will certainly flesh it out (along with a food menu) over time.
Corkscrew is now fully open (both coffee and wine sides) and their hours are subject to expansion.
Currently the Corkscrew wine bar is open 4 p.m. – “until” Monday through Friday and noon – “until” on Saturday and Sunday.
