Everybody knows the Duke Energy Center.
Originally known as the Wachovia Corporate Center, it’s the second tallest, martini glass-shaped skyscraper in Uptown Charlotte.
It’s also triple LEED Platinum Certified, meaning it’s highly energy efficient and ensures electricity cost savings, lower carbon emissions and healthier environments.
Recognize it yet?
Approximately 1,300 Duke Energy employees work out of this building alone. All together, there’s more than 3,500 Duke Energy employees throughout Uptown.
What most people don’t know is what the inside looks like.
Check it out:
Welcome to the 47th floor, ladies and gentlemen.
There are 48 floors total. Note the awesome event space below overlooking Charlotte.
Imagine being able to have a meeting with those views.
Even better? An office with those views.
So cool.
Employee lounges are scattered throughout the building.
If you’re wondering if they’re all as swanky as these two, the answer is a definite yes.
The elevators are by far my favorite technology in the Duke Energy Center.
Once you choose which floor you’re traveling to, the system chooses the most efficient elevator to get you there then illustrates which one to get on. Are we in the 21st century or what?!
The monitors on each floor didn’t fail to impress either.
They’re full of helpful information and way more effective than the average office cork board.

We’re not quite done yet. Duke Energy employees work out of three Uptown buildings all within a block of each other.
This building has equally swanky elevators, monitors and break rooms.
Oh yeah, and an on-site gym that’s insanely nice and convenient.
Talk about perks.
Finally, there’s the Energy Center, Duke Energy’s oldest Uptown building.
Did you think there wouldn’t be an employee cafeteria and library?
If so, you thought wrong.
If you’re curious about where non-Uptown Duke Energy employees go to work, you won’t be disappointed.
These are some shots from one of their nuclear power plants and dams (McGuire Nuclear Plant and Cowan’s Ford Hydro Station) up I-77 off exit 25.
Pro tip: they show movies and host concerts here.
Awesome date night idea.
