Welcome to UNC Charlotte Center City.

The architectural beauty is an extension of UNC Charlotte, located in Uptown’s First Ward. UNC Charlotte Center City is the only University of North Carolina building conceived and designed specifically to serve the people, organizations and businesses of the urban center.

The building features art throughout its hallways and even hosts a gallery on its first floor.

Most of the artwork in the building is on loan or a donation to UNC Charlotte.

The building is known for its eco-friendly features and innovative learning spaces.

UNC Charlotte Center City is a LEED Gold-certified building, meaning it’s highly energy efficient. The flooring is made from recycled burlap, everything used by caterers is compostable, the toilets flush with water captured from air conditioning condensation, and rain water is collected to water the garden.

The building plays host to nine educational programs and eight departments, including Masters programs in Architecture and Public Administration, Belk College of Business and professional accreditation courses.

UNC Charlotte Center City hosts a plethora of events, meetings, exhibits, conferences and camps each year.

Some popular ones have included children STEM camps, the Envision America conference and Violins of Hope.

UNC Charlotte Center City has put an emphasis on creating opportunities to give back to the community since they are in an urban setting. For example, each year they host a Thanksgiving lunch with the Urban Ministry Center, inviting homeless Charlotteans in for a meal.
