Charlotte breweries rack up 5 medals at the U.S. Open Beer Championship

Sugar Creek Brewing and Three Spirits Brewing won a combined 5 medals at the U.S. Open Beer Championship.

Winners were announced Monday from the competition held in Oxford, Ohio. The blind tasting judges both professional and home-brewers — some 5,000 beers across 90 styles.

Sugar Creek Brewing won 2 golds

The Sugar Creek Raspberry White won in the Belgian Fruit category, and Sugar Creek Biere De Garde won for Belgian Ales.

Three Spirits Brewing won 3 silvers

Red Moon Rising won for American Amber/California Common; Agate Have It won for Brown Ale; and their Honey Porter won for Brown Porters.
