Global Restaurant, a Ballantyne mainstay for a decade and an award-winning eatery, has reopened in downtown Pineville.

The restaurant closed its doors in the Toringdon shopping center last year, and chef-owner Bernard Brunet got to work renovating the new space at 314 Main Street. Expect a fine dining experience in a space with beautiful details and character.

Global is a family affair. Brunet’s wife Shannon is a co-owner and runs the front of the house. Their 8-year-old son Xavier is the third owner.

“We fell in love with downtown Pineville,” Brunet says.

Downstairs is more casual, and upstairs is more romantic.

On the lower level you’ll find a bar and butcher block tables with metal seating. The wine selection is displayed beneath a brick archway that once housed a bank vault.

The upstairs vibe is more formal, with white tablecloths and beautiful exposed wooden beams. Brunet, who bought the building, spent about a year fixing the place up and has worked to maintain original details, such as a tin ceiling downstairs.

Inside Global Restaurant

Brunet grew up in Nice, France, and the menu — which rotates seasonally — reflects his culinary influences.

Current menu offerings include appetizers such as a cheese plate, beef tartare and bacon mac and cheese, with a price range of $9 to $15. Entrees include barley risotto, diver scallops and seared duck breast, with prices from $19 to $28.

There are several North Carolina beers on tap, including a handful of Olde Mecklenburg Brewery selections, a large wine menu (not the kind you’ll find at Harris Teeter, Brunet says) and cocktails — such as the Global Julep and Le French Martini — ranging from $10 to $13.

Global Restaurant also has a patio out front and books private parties and corporate events — the first holiday party is already on the schedule. The restaurant has a big business following because of its previous location in Ballantyne.

Hours: Tuesday-Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
