Live Nation’s new venue next door to the Fillmore will be ready to open in July.
Last month, we learned that Live Nation — which operates the Fillmore — had leased the former Bootlegger’s bar next door with plans to turn it into a new venue. It’s finally about ready to open.
The venue will officially be called “The Underground” and will have capacity of 750 (compared with 2,000 at the neighboring Fillmore). Construction is ongoing, but Live Nation has already booked the first events for the new space.

The first concert will be July 30.
It will be a local showcase including Charlotte bands Fiftywatt Freight Train and Something Clever.
But there will also be a few preview-type events before that.
- Today (Thursday, June 9), Live Nation will be giving out 500 King of Pops popsicles at 5 p.m. and new temporary signage will go up.
- On July 24, there will be a pre-party at The Underground ahead of the Tedeschi Trucks Band concert at the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheater.
- On July 28, #Instabeerup will be held at The Underground.
The first national tour at The Underground will be I Prevail on August 11.
The Underground is hiring, too.
They’ll do a job fair for bartenders, door staff and security from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 27.
Look for more details as the venue gets closer to opening.
