One of the top complaints about center city Charlotte is the lack of retail. We all hear it, we all know it. It’s obvious and with patience, it will be remedied.

Edens has taken up the mantle and has begun recruiting the nation’s top retailers to Atherton Mill in South End. First was Anthropologie, followed by Free People.

Now they have signed Alton Lane to come to Atherton Mill. Alton Lane is a high-end menswear brand specializing in custom suits, shirts and beyond. They are well known for their quality and I love me some proper suits.

What this means for Charlotte is far greater than just a menswear company coming to Atherton Mill. Looking at Alton Lane’s other locations shows that Charlotte is a market ready to take it on. Atlanta, NYC, DC, San Fransisco, Chicago and Boston are most of the high profile cities in which they have a location.

Look for the Charlotte store to open in the fall and look for Edens to continue expanding their retail portfolio on this site in preparation for their massive project which will most definitely yield much more retail.

I love to see South End becoming a retail hub (Uptown is next) and it just adds to the already eclectic neighborhood.
