Saturday at 7am marked the opening of Amélie’s first South Charlotte location in the Carmel Commons shopping center. I ran out of the house with wet hair and rolled over speed bumps like I just don’t care to get there.
The location is huge. Victoria, the General Manager, estimates around 7,000 square feet, including the kitchen. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor terrace seating and the décor is charmingly consistent with their NoDa location. In addition to the usual offerings, this spot is the first to offer beer, wine, dinner salads, and savory crepes. You could conceivably hide out here all day.
Amélie’s continues dominate the Charlotte bakery market with expansions galore. In addition to the recently announced 11,000 square foot Uptown location, they’re planning to open in the Park Road Shopping Center by the end of the year. Plans are for the Park Road location, in the back near ROCKSALT, to be a central cake production location to house not only their traditional menu, but a specialty custom cake division as well. Time to buy bigger pants.
