The plastic, yellow Wiffle ball bat is a symbol of childhood for many. Who can forget those summer afternoons playing barefoot in the grass with all the neighborhood kids?

Well, this summer, Wiffle ball is back.

Levine Properties announced today that on June 24, they will be hosting Wiffle Ball Y’all, a Wiffle ball tournament to benefit Levine Children’s Hospital.

Daniel Levine, President of Levine Properties, got the idea from local Wiffle ball guru, Zach Kaytes and it snowballed from there. “They say Charlotte has one of everything, why not a Wiffle Ball Tournament for adults?” says Levine.

Kaytes, who grew up playing Wiffle ball with his younger brother, lives and works in First Ward. He noticed a lot near First Ward Park and saw the opportunity for a Wiffle ball field. Levine, the property owner, saw Kaytes’ vision, and the field and tournament were born.

Here’s why you should come join us for the day.

(1) This Wiffle ball tourney the first of its kind in Charlotte

Attend this event and you’ll be part of QC history. Levine Properties is even creating a Wiffle ball venue called First Ward Field specifically for this event. It’s located at 8th and Caldwell Street. Zach, the Tournament Director, says the field is going to be “state-of-the-art.”

The field is still being completed. Zach says they will be putting down sod sometime next week.

(2) It’s an excuse to leave the office early

Wiffle Ball Y’all is being held from noon-5 p.m. on on the first Friday of summer, aka June 24. Looks like you’ve got a reason to take the afternoon off. Zach says to think of it like “an adult field day.”

(3) You get to watch adults play Wiffle ball – for free

Honestly, who doesn’t want to watch a bunch of grown men and women play Wiffle ball? Plus, spectators can enjoy at no charge. Free entertainment this good is hard to come by.

(4) It’s all for a really important cause

The tournament’s eight team sponsors each donated directly to Levine Children’s Hospital to participate in the event.

(5) Two words – food trucks

Stick around after the tournament from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. and grab a bite to eat. There will be food trucks on-site serving up all of their mouthwatering creations. It’s like a mini food truck Friday + Wiffle ball.

(6) Two more words – free parking

Driving Uptown can be a pain, especially when you have to pay for parking. Luckily, free parking will be provided by Levine Properties in the gravel lot across the street.
