The Gold Line streetcar that runs down Trade Street has a certain charm. But city leaders have in mind a much more modern design as the trolley track gets extended down toward Johnson C. Smith University in the upcoming second phase.

The city just released renderings submitted by the three companies who are bidding to provide the new trains. Here’s what they have in mind. The final decision is expected to be made in July. Of course, everything is subject to change.
