Say you’re at work and you’re headed out of town the following morning, and you need something for your trip. Instead of fighting the crowds on your way home, you can now order the item directly from your computer or phone and it will arrive before 9 p.m., the same day.

Amazon just expanded it’s free same-day shipping program to several new cities, including Charlotte. Now, for Amazon Prime members, if you order more than $35 of qualifying items before noon, you will get them the same day before 9 p.m. After noon, and you will receive free one day delivery.

How will Amazon be able to meet such a huge commitment in a city the size of Charlotte? They have a large fulfillment center right off I-85 near Concord.

That’s on top of a much larger facility near Columbia. Amazon had already been pre-sorting packages by ZIP code and giving them to the U.S. Postal Service to deliver the final leg. Now, they’re simply stepping up their commitment by adding same-day, instead of two days.
