
Charlotteans have donated nearly $1 million to presidential candidates this election cycle.
More than 2,700 individual contributions were recorded in 2015 and this year. (All data comes from the Federal Elections Commission.
The top recipient: Hillary Clinton
She racked up $404,732 across 780 donations (some people donated multiple times). The other Democratic candidate for president, Bernie Sanders, had just $32,153 from Charlotte donors, but racked up a lot more smaller donations. He had a total of 527 donations.
But Republicans collectively received more money.
Fifteen candidates received a total of $487,754. Here’s how it broke down:

- Jeb Bush: $50,350
- Lindsay Graham (out): $29,425
- Ted Cruz: $29,223
- Mike Huckabee (out): $22,100
- Rand Paul (out): $19,126
- Carly Fiorina (out): $17,477
- Scott Walker (out): $13,050
- John Kasich: $11,410
Donald Trump, who constantly talks about self-funding his campaign, recorded just $1,500 in donations from Charlotte.
The top donating ZIP code: 28211
The home of Myers Park chipped in $179,565. The Eastover area (28207) was close behind at $177,210.
