Charlotte has been shaking off its reputation as a banker’s steakhouse town for a while now with new, different and (alright fine) “weird” food concepts popping up around town. For this, vegetarians like myself rejoice but my omnivorous friends are sometimes a bit wary. Vegetarian and vegan food is only “weird” to the uninitiated so if you haven’t tried it yet, you should do that.
Lucky for you there are two healthy food events shaking up the Charlotte food scene this spring. So get out there, eat some animal-free food and report back. I promise you will like it.
Charlotte VegFest | Saturday, May 16
Pop over to Plaza Midwood tomorrow from 2-7pm to sample food from 17 local veg-friendly vendors, including The Common Market, Fern, The Naked Tart, Nourish, King of Pops and more. They’ll also have non-profit animal rescues and sanctuaries on site to talk about the work they do to keep Charlotte humane.
Nourish + Bell’s Best Vegan Farm to Table Dinner | Friday, June 5
Vegan meal delivery service Nourish is teaming up with Bell’s Best Farm to host a five-course plant-based farm to table dinner complete with wine pairings. Seating is limited to just 20 people so grab a spot will you can and try things like: warm field pea salad with boiled peanuts and cashew cheese, gazpacho with avocado cream and blueberry cobbler with vanilla cashew cream.
