I’ve been writing more and more about the need for Charlotte’s nightlife to mature. For Uptown to realize there’s more to drinking than the standard pieces in place now.
A new wave is upon Charlotte with places like The Cellar, 204 North, Loft & Cellar and more and Uptown is adding a new place to its growing roster of diverse places to enjoy good ole alcohol.
Enter: The Corkscrew.
The name may sound familiar to those who know about its Birkdale location.
Boasting 30+ wines by glass, 200+ by the bottle and 30+ beers on rotation, the Birkdale location offers something a lot of us long for Uptown: a relaxing place to enjoy a glass of wine or a beer without thumping music in your ear, beer being spilled on you and whatever other Uptown stereotype you can think of.

Its location is interesting and quite exciting. The Vue hasn’t had a retail tenant since its opening but personally, I think this location is a slam dunk.
Being on 5th Street it is hardly off the beaten path with a vast majority of the rest of Uptown nightlife right down the street. You also have all the residents of The Vue, 5th & Poplar and historic Fourth Ward ready to flock to a place like this.

Plans are in review and permits should be issued soon. Look for this 1,200-square-foot space to open in summer or early fall (in my estimation).
