Do you like sushi? If your answer is yes and you haven’t been to Pisces $11 all you can eat lunch special, slap yourself.

First things first, let’s talk about avoiding being “that guy.”

During her 40-second description of how it works, the waitress at Pisces told me, “Oh, there is one rule. You can’t take the rice off around the sushi rolls and just eat the fish.”

Me: “What? You mean people come in here, order the rolls and then strip them down to just the fish so that they can maximize the $11 value?”

Waitress: “Yes, you’d be surprised how many people do this.”

I found myself over-indexing on not being “that guy” when eating my rolls. I ate every little piece of rice that fell on my plate. It was an odd challenge. Anyways.

Here are some tips on how to crush $10 sushi like a pro.

(1) Be mentally prepared to park in Metropolitan’s horrifying parking deck.

I have parking anxiety. Here’s where you walk in.

(2) Grab one of the funky tables.

Pisces has those weird pods in the back right. I sat on trendy sofas in the back left. Felt loungey and cool.

(3) Read the menu.

You have 18 sushi rolls as options. Yes, the “Kitchen Items” are part of the $11 special. No, you can’t get nigiri without paying more. No, you can’t be the loser that gets it to-go. Salads are an extra $2 (don’t order this and pretend like you’re healthy).

(4) Order 3 – 5 rolls on your initial order.

All rolls are 1/2 of a full roll (aka 4 pieces). Make an aggressive order at the onset to set the stage and to keep your waitress from doing a ton of back and forth. If you’re a ginger lover (I am) ask for extra — you’ll need it.

(5) Don’t fill up on Kitchen Items (fried rice, garlic noodles, spring rolls).

Rookie mistake. Okay, order a spring roll. They’re solid.

(6) Thank the sushi chefs on the way out.

It’s the right thing to do. They just dominated for you.
