Pickleball is coming to Camp North End.
What’s happening: Charlotte entrepreneurs Mike Salzarulo, the co-owner of Protagonist, and Tanner Brooks, the co-owner of Hopp, will open Tipsy Pickle next summer. It will be their first venture together.
Why it matters: Pickleball as a sport-meets-food business is rapidly growing in Charlotte, from LoSo to near NoDa.
- Luxury gyms want in on the action, too. Public dollars are also being invested in the sport.
Details: Tipsy Pickle will be a 35,000-square-foot facility (25,000 square feet inside and 10,000 square feet outside). It will include six pickleball courts (four indoor and two outdoor), three bars and a Tex-Mex menu, Salzarulo said in a statement. It will also have golf simulators, ping pong, pool tables, shuffleboard, corn hole and darts.
- The multi-level space will have space for events with more than 1,000 guests.
- There will also be pickleball court leagues.
- It will be located at 201 Camp Road, Suite 107.
What they’re saying: “The popularity of pickleball is growing exponentially and we want to create a place where everyone feels welcome, from the pros to the novices to the sideline heroes just looking to have a good time,” Brooks said in the statement.
Zoom out: Camp North End continues to expand its portfolio, from festivals and art exhibits to restaurants and local paper goods and plant shops. Soon it will have apartments, too.
Take a look around.
