Sr. Assistant to the County Manager
Salary range:
$80,701 – $121,051
Job summary:
Provide complex, professional level support, research assistance, or public relations for the Executive County Leadership. This position is responsible for providing program/department area oversight and supervision and/or an enterprise-wide function. Specific duties include managing large-scale, enterprise projects that require collaboration and partnerships with various internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the County Manager’s Office; managing day-to-day activities within a specific program/department or function; meeting with program management/staff from assigned areas; representing the County Manager’s Office in external stakeholder meetings and exercising independent discretion in decision making which impacts the County’s operations.
Incumbents are accountable for the successful ongoing management and compliance of County functions as well as the implementation of new initiatives in County departments or across the organization. Incumbents are responsible for leading workgroups and/or contracted services. This position reports to the Deputy County Manager who is responsible for providing executive oversight of the Financial Services Department, the Office of the Tax Collector, the County Assessor’s Office, Information Technology, and Human Resources.
Essential functions:
• Assist the Executive County Leadership team with the development and/or implementation of broad County plans, goals and objectives, performance measures, and other strategic business functions
• Help direct the daily operations of the County government by providing guidance and direction to subordinate department heads and managers
• Ensure programs, services, and systems support the County mission
• Assist leadership with the formulation of division/department plans that support the broader County goals and objectives
• Discuss budget issues and developments with department heads and managers; and ensures budget amendments are appropriate, documented and support the County’s goals and objectives
• Ensure human resources actions comply with state, federal and local regulations, and support County goals and objectives
• Perform a variety of administrative duties associated with supervising staff, to include hiring, assigning work, providing guidance and direction; evaluating performance, and taking disciplinary action as necessary
• Identify resources and staff needed to complete project; develops project plan and schedule; directs committees, tasks forces and other parties assigned to special projects; provides status reports, study findings and recommendations; and oversees implementation of approved plans and initiatives
• Represent the County to local businesses, community organizations, citizen groups, and the general public and respond to inquiries and/or complaints from the general public that cannot be resolved by managers
Qualifications:
Minimum
• Experience: Minimum of six years of relevant experience; familiar with the assigned areas of responsibility
• Education: Bachelor’s degree
• Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted: Yes
Preferred
• Master’s degree
• Local government experience
