The Fox & Falcon by David Burke opens in SouthPark Thursday, Sept. 28.

Why it matters: The Fox & Falcon is the latest addition to Charlotte for celebrity chef David Burke, who’s been featured on Iron Chef America and Top Chef Masters. The restaurant’s opening follows the recent closures of Burke’s rooftop bar Cloud Bar and restaurant Red Salt in Uptown.

  • “Charlotte’s vibrant culinary scene continues to impress me, and I’m excited to be part of this dynamic community,” Burke said of SouthPark.

The vibes: Fox & Falcon, a modern steakhouse, is in the space previously occupied by Dogwood, which served its final dinner on Aug. 26. In the weeks since then, the restaurant has been fitted in typical David Burke fashion — featuring pink Himalayan salt accents throughout and artwork handpicked by Burke.

  • The 4,100-square-foot space fits about 160 people, including outdoor seating, bar seating and a chef’s table for eight.

Its menu will feature David Burke’s signature dishes like the DB clothesline bacon and popovers for dessert. The menu will focus on prime-cut beef, like the tomahawk steak for two. Seafood lovers can expect what Burke calls “ocean” steaks, like the halibut T-bone and lobster dumplings.

  • Of note: Chef Burke is supported by executive chef Mathew Turney and chef de cuisine Seth Wilson, who will lead this restaurant.

Zoom in: Burke’s investment in Charlotte extends beyond restaurants. In 2020, he started the Burke Fellows program at Johnson & Wales University (JWU), offering paid internships to recent grads. This year, he earned an honorary doctorate in business administration from the university, per a press release.

Details: The Fox & Falcon is located at 4905 Ashley Park Lane at Sharon Square in SouthPark.

  • It’ll be open Sunday and Tuesday-Thursday from 4-9pm, Friday-Saturday 4-10pm.

What’s next: Burke will open a new restaurant called G.O.A.T Pizza in Cornelius later this year.

We got a sneak peek of the space and menu items. Here’s a look inside:
