Standardized Patient (Part-time)
Established in 1951, the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization whose examinations are universally accepted for optometric licensure in the United States and accepted internationally. NBEO’s mission is to protect the public by developing, administering, scoring, and reporting results of valid examinations that assess competency in optometry.
The National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) is hiring part-time Standardized Patients (SP’s). Fourth-year optometry students from schools throughout North America travel to Charlotte to take a clinical skills exam with the help of SP’s. Starting pay is $16 an hour with the opportunity to earn a $500 bonus. We are located in the heart of uptown Charlotte, and we cover parking costs. Licensed Doctors of Optometry on NBEO’s staff oversee the administration of the clinical skills exam. If you are interested, please apply using this link:
NBEO provides comprehensive training to prepare our SPs for this role. Only applicants with a glasses or contact lens prescription, and no known ocular conditions or surgery will be considered.
Ideal applicants should:
• Be comfortable being examined by health professionals
• Be reliable and punctual
• Possess great attention to detail
• Be comfortable providing feedback about a candidate’s performance
• Be comfortable having exams video and audio recorded for scoring and education purposes
• Be able to successfully pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening
Standardized Patients generally work between 12 and 20 hours a week, and the work schedule is flexible. To support the health and safety of NBEO employees and optometry candidates, NBEO requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or to have received from NBEO an approved accommodation based on a medical condition or on a sincerely held religious belief or practice.
