Both Red Salt and Cloud Bar by David Burke recently closed in Le Méridien hotel in Uptown.
What’s happening: The celebrity chef is shifting his focus to his new restaurant, The Fox & Falcon, set to open in SouthPark at the end of this year.
- “The decision to leave the location was not taken lightly,” Burke said in a press release.
Why it matters: Burke, an award-winning chef and restaurateur, currently owns 16 restaurants across the country and one in Saudi Arabia, but Cloud Bar was his first venture in the South, as Axios reported.
Catch up quick: Burke’s New Jersey restaurant will expand in the soon-to-be-former Dogwood Southern Table & Bar, as first reported by Charlotte Business Journal.
- The 4,100-square-foot space will have an elevated American food menu and a crafted cocktail menu, according to What Now Charlotte.
Flashback: Both Cloud Bar and Red Salt opened in 2020, offering Burke’s signature American dishes like his clothesline bacon and crackling pork shank, to name a few.

Zoom out: Burke recently teamed up with Nick Lyssikatos (of Port City Club on Lake Norman) to rebrand and rename the Lake Norman restaurant. It’s now Port City Club by David Burke, and offers Burke’s signature dishes like the clothesline bacon from Cloud Bar and the cake pop dessert from Red Salt.
What’s next: Dogwood will host its final dinner on Saturday, Aug. 26.
- The rooftop lounge at Le Méridien, where Cloud Bar used to be, is still open while the hotel team reinvents the space.
