Job summary:
The Director of Youth Ministries is responsible for the administration, supervision, and leadership of an established youth ministry program at St. Stephen United Methodist Church. This person will coordinate with the Senior Pastor and Minister of Discipleship to implement a comprehensive youth ministry plan that produces a clear direction for discipleship. This person’s primary responsibility is that of team building and leadership development. The Director of Youth Ministries should work to be a leader of leaders.

This is a part-time, exempt position reporting directly to the Minister of Discipleship and Engagement and administratively to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee. Responsibilities include assisting in planning and implementing up to 5 youth retreats per year; recruiting, retaining, and equipping adult volunteers as youth counselors; directing and supporting our youth ministry; and encouraging, modeling, and executing the youth vision and mission as follows:

Qualifications:
• Committed follower of Jesus Christ; familiar with and committed to the Methodist faith and practices
• Passionate about youth ministry with a resilient and persevering spirit; previous experience or involvement in youth ministry preferred
• Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education or Youth Ministry preferred but not required
• Strong interpersonal communication skills; relatable, caring, inclusive, and able to communicate biblical and life lessons. Relationship-builder with parents, youth, volunteers, and staff
• Self-directed and flexible team player who works well with others and maintains accountability for areas of responsibility
• Organized planner and effective written communicator
• Proficient in use of technology and social media

Responsibilities:
• Direct the UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship) program
• Intentionally build relationships with youth (and their families) and youth counselors
• Assist the Minister of Discipleship and Engagement to recruit, train, equip, retain, and oversee adult volunteers
• Plan and supervise 6th grade confirmation
• Plan and lead all youth-related retreats and mission work
• Communicate regularly with parents, youth, and youth counselors
• Maintain and supervise the overall Student Ministries budget with support from the Program Secretary and Financial Administrator
• Ensure that all adult youth volunteers have complied with the St. Stephen UMC Safe Sanctuaries policy

Work schedule:
• Must attend Sunday evening youth group
• Must be willing to participate in weekend and/or week-long retreats
• Regularly attend staff meetings and other committees as necessary
• Flexible scheduling will be necessary to support youth relationships and events

Position:
This is an in-person, part-time position for 26 hours per week that includes an annual salary range of $23,000 to $26,000 commensurate with education and experience.
