The People’s Market in Elizabeth is expanding to Lower South End (LoSo) in spring 2024.

The announcement comes almost exactly one year after the popular neighborhood café opened on Elizabeth Avenue.

Why it matters: Charlotteans love this all-day café. Ever since he closed the original Dilworth location in 2020, owner Cory Duran has been on a mission to bring back the “magic” of the original People’s Market. When he reopened in Elizabeth, Duran vowed to bring the cherished spot to other Charlotte neighborhoods.

“I believe this location will deliver on that notion,” Duran said in a statement. “And getting to us will be easy by car, light rail or bike.”

Zoom in: The People’s Market LoSo will be inside The Station at LoSo, a 15-acre mixed-use development with a hotel, apartments, offices and restaurants near Olde Mecklenburg Brewery.

  • Two the of property’s buildings, called Stations 3 and 4, will have a mix of indoor and outdoor retail space; The People’s Market will be inside Station 4.
  • Popular Charleston restaurant Taco Boy will be located in Station 3 and is slated to open in late September or early October.

What to expect: The 5,000-square-foot all-day market will fit about 120 people.

    • There will be indoor and outdoor seating, and the market will have live music on the weekends.
    • Similar to its Elizabeth location, the LoSo menu will feature breakfast dishes, sandwiches, wraps, pizza, salads, burgers, pastries and vegan options.
    • There will also be a full bar with craft beer on tap, cocktails, wine and coffee, smoothies and non-alcoholic beverages.

Details: The People’s Market LoSo will be located at 3600 South Blvd.

    • It’ll be open seven days a week and accessible via the rail trail and Scaleybark light rail station. Onsite parking is also available for up to two hours.
