This luxury mansion with a panoramic view of Lake Norman, which hit the market a couple of months ago, just sold for $6.8 million.

It was originally listed for $7 million in May.

Why it matters: The recent purchase is the second most expensive home ever sold in Cornelius.

  • It’s also the highest-priced home ever sold on Lake Norman per square foot, at $1,176, according to a statement from Premier Sotheby’s International Realty.

Background: The mansion is located in a popular, high-end area — 20927 Bethelwood Lane. NASCAR drivers Jeff Gordon and Rusty Wallace have previously resided on the same street.

Details: The home has five spacious bedrooms, six bathrooms plus a four-car garage in the 5,781 square feet estate.

    • It was custom-built by Patrick Joseph Distinctive Homes to include features for entertainment and relaxation.
    • The home boasts an open floor plan, hardwood floors, a fireplace, built-in shelving and large walk-in closets.

Bonus: Its panoramic view of Lake Norman can be seen from the expansive windows, a private balcony, a covered porch and the poolside.

Zoom out: Lake Norman is among one of a few areas outside of Charlotte to gain a recent uptick in buyers, according to Canopy data.

    • In May, Lake Norman experienced positive year-over-year closed sales at 3.3% compared to the -16.6% in Charlotte.

Of note: The buyer purchased the home in a trust in order to remain anonymous, according to a Premier Sotheby’s representative.
