If adding a golf simulator to your home isn’t in the budget for this year, don’t worry: There’s a new local spot where you can play more than 500 courses and work on your short game.
Driving the news: Matt and Kristen Wilson opened Tempo Golf Club in Huntersville in June. They describe the space as Lake Norman’s premier indoor golf facility with golf simulators and an augmented reality putting area. It’s the first brick-and-mortar business for the husband-and-wife duo, who both come from marketing backgrounds.
- “We both really enjoy golfing, especially together,” Kristen tells Axios. “It’s always been one of our dates, and then we had our first kiddo two years ago and golfing has become a challenge to get out there.”
Why it matters: The Charlotte area cannot get enough of golf, and golf simulators continue to rise in popularity, whether they’re in people’s homes or in private social clubs. But sometimes it’s hard to get to the course or even get a tee time. Tempo Golf Club allows you to golf in any weather — plus you can bring your family.
- Tempo should make golf feel approachable, Matt tells Axios. It can be a space where you work on skills, throw a birthday party or have a date night.
Details: The space includes four golf simulators with more than 500 courses to choose from. You can play a full round of golf, choose from challenge scenarios or opt for target golf. You can also see your data instantly to improve your game.
- The augmented reality area tracks the ball as it rolls across the green and includes games like PuttPong and tic-tac-toe.
- Tempo Golf Club is located a 10410 Arahova Dr. Ste. C. in Huntersville, next to Whit’s Frozen Custard.
- Tempo is open from 10am-9pm Monday through Thursday, 9am-10pm Friday and Saturday and 10am-8pm on Sunday.
- The facility also sells snacks, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.
Price: Bay reservations are $48 per hour Monday through Thursday and $58 per hour Friday through Sunday. Putting system reservations are $34 per hour and $17 per half-hour. All reservations are half-off on Tuesdays. Tempo Golf Club also offers business memberships, leagues and lessons (contact for pricing about lessons).
- A business membership costs $195 and includes up to four hours of golf on weekdays before 4pm, free water, coffee and WiFi, plus 10% off of merchandise, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.
- Joining a league costs $150, which gets you six visits that must be completed on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or a Friday over six weeks. First place receives a Tempo shirt, $150 Tempo gift card, a trophy, plus bragging rights.

Flashback: Matt proposed to Kristen in 2016 at the original Sycamore Brewing in South End, dropping a shipping container that read, “#WillKristensayyes?” on the Rail Trail (we even posted about it on Instagram). She said yes and today they have a two-year-old daughter named Parker who is working on her golf swing at Tempo.
