Tuesday night won’t be Amina Faye’s first time taking the stage at Belk Theater.
Context: The Central Academy of Technology and Arts alumna won the Blumey Award for best actress on that same stage in 2016 — the Blumeys annually recognize top-tier high school theater in the Charlotte area.
- She went on to win The Jimmy Award, which is like the Tony Awards for high school theater, for best performance by an actress that year.
What’s happening: Faye plays Jane Seymour in the tour of Broadway musical “SIX,” which follows the six wives of Henry VIII, July 4-16. She’s the third of the English monarch’s six wives.
Zoom out: Faye’s family still lives in Monroe, but she’ll spend plenty of time inside the 485-loop during her stop. She shared three “musts” during her time here. They include:
- A salted caramel brownie from Amélie’s. Lucky for Faye, Amélie’s just reopened their Uptown spot down the street from Belk Theater.
- Pizza at Inizio in Dilworth.
- Brown butter almond brittle ice cream from Jeni’s.
What she’s saying: “A lot of family a lot of friends who don’t necessarily … have the means to come see me all the way in New York, I get to bring this to them, and that is the coolest thing ever,” Faye tells Axios.
Details: “SIX” is an 80-minute show and does not include an intermission. Opening night starts at 7pm so you’ll still have time to see fireworks for the Fourth. Tickets start at $36.50.
