The time has finally come. One of the most important projects in Uptown has broken ground. Crescent Stonewall Station is set to begin a revolution on Stonewall Street.
Stretching from Mint Street to I-277, Stonewall will become a different universe over the next few years, and Crescent Communities is leading the charge. Apartments, grocery stores, hotels, office towers and even a potential urban mall will all change the landscape.
Crescent Stonewall Station is one of Crescent Communities’ two Stonewall projects (the other being Tryon Place) and here is a reminder of the scope of the project:
- Uptown’s largest and first full-sized grocer, in Whole Foods
- Whole Body (Whole Foods’ market for supplements and body personal care products)
- 459 apartment units, including a 230’ high rise tower
- Apartments will have a pool deck overlooking the city, rooftop dog park, fitness center, etc
- 9,000 square feet of plaza space on the third floor connecting to the light rail’s Stonewall Station and containing the Whole Foods Market Cafe
- Massive parking deck (about 1,400 spaces)
- 2 hotels that are not included in this phase (Home2Suites and another hotel to be announced. Currently the rumor is a Hyatt Centric.)

I have written over and over how excellent this project is, and I can’t stress it enough.
The design and materials being used on this project are top notch (I am curious to see how they handle the 277 facing side, I have faith it won’t be an ugly blank wall) and the sidewalks are wide and inviting. This project really helps continue Charlotte’s revolution to an urban city and will continue to keep people out of their cars (hopefully), utilize transportation and do that whole walking thing.
With an aggressive timeline for completion in 2017 Crescent Stonewall Station is a perfect project for uptown’s progression and will even help connect South End more to Uptown and Uptown to Charlotte.
Another empty lot bites the dust…
