Overview:
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Controller will execute the financial strategy for Skiptown, the all-in-one ecosystem for pets and their people offering a full suite of pet services and a dog bar & park.

You are a detail oriented, perfectionist who thrives on setting & maintaining processes. You never met a spreadsheet or a dog you didn’t like. The ideal Controller is someone who has:
• Experience managing and executing on all aspects of accounting: financial statements, general ledger management, cost accounting, budgeting, tax compliance, revenue recognition, and reconciliation
• Proven ability to prepare and deliver on-time and accurate monthly closing of all financial reports and models
• Impeccable attention to detail

What you’ll do:
Accounting operations
• Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions
• Manage all aspects of accounting, including billing, general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
• Monitor cash and funding balances
• Ensure quality control over all financial transactions
Monthly and annual reporting
• Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
• Coordinate and prepare internal and external financial statements
• Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensuring that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards
• Support month-end and year-end close process
Budgeting and forecasting
• Facilitate the annual budget process
• Manage location budgets and report significant budget differences to management
Lease administration
• Track and monitor key lease requirements and ensure Skiptown compliance
• Identify opportunities for cost savings related to landlord compliance and expenses
• Reconcile lease-related charges and report on trends/discrepancies
Compliance
• Coordinate activities of external auditors and provide the needed information for the annual audit
• Overseeing regulatory reporting and tax filing
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
• Research technical accounting issues
Processes and documentation
• Set, enforce, and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
• Implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk
• Evaluate and manage accounting and internal control systems
• Evaluate and implement new accounting software
• Organize the documentation of all accounts, statements, transactions, payments, and debts

Candidate requirements:
• 5+ years of experience as a controller or managing an accounting department
• Current or expired CPA certification
• Strong understanding of US GAAP
• Experience using QuickBooks
• Bonus: Previous experience working in accounting at a high-growth startup
• Bonus: Expertise in consumer-focused operational business with multiple real estate locations
• Bonus: Familiarity with Stripe or large volume credit card processing is a plus
• Bonus: Experience with lease administration or tracking lease expenses
