A new cozy cocktail bar with a soccer twist opens today in Elizabeth.

What’s happening: Hooligans on Elizabeth is now Elizabeth Parlour Room at Hooligans FC.

Why it matters: It’s still part of the family of Hooligans, Charlotte’s longtime soccer bar in Uptown. But now, the emphasis is less on soccer and more on creating a craft cocktail experience with a neighborhood feel, owner Matt Marenna tells Axios.

  • You’ll see fewer jerseys on the walls, for instance, but more antique soccer photos, plus a plant wall and cozy corners with couches and comfy chairs.

Details: The space includes 11 TVs (nine inside and two outside) and seats around 50 people inside, with a few tables outside. The bar is in the same building as the offices of the Charlotte Independence (a minor league soccer team that plays at American Legion Memorial Stadium a few blocks away).

  • Independence founder Jim McPhilliamy is one of the partners in the business, Marenna tells Axios.
  • It will be open daily: 2-11pm Monday-Thursday; 2pm-12am on Friday; 10am-12am on Saturday; 11am-11pm on Sunday.
  • Elizabeth Parlour Room at Hooligans FC sits at 1523 Elizabeth Ave., Unit 120 near Big Ben and the People’s Market.

Menu: They’ll start with eight cocktails on the menu, but Marenna says this will also be the place where you can order anything from a martini to a shot and a beer. He expects the Simple Pleasures cocktail to be popular.

  • It includes rum, nutmeg, orange and pineapple juice and a few other secret ingredients.
  • All of the juices will be fresh squeezed, and the cocktails will have clean flavors, Marenna says.

Context: Hooligans on Elizabeth, which opened in 2021, was open for the World Cup, but shut down after the tournament to transform from a soccer bar into a cocktail bar where you can watch soccer. Before that it was Jack’s House, a soccer bar and team store, run by the Independence.
