I’d like to invest in Boxman Studios. Sure, I love their event/activation line of retrofitted shipping containers, but I’m incredibly bullish on their ability to create mobile living spaces and mobile functional units.
This market will be enormous and Boxman Studios has the chance to dominate it. They’ve got potential for explosive growth.
What does Boxman Studios do?
Founded in 2008 by David Campbell, Boxman Studios uses old shipping containers as a “form of temporary and mobile real estate.” They specialize in “the design, manufacture, and deployment of customized shipping containers for commercial use.”
Boxman Studios fast facts:
- 45 total team members. About 20 office workers and 25 shop workers.
- Companies can either purchase or lease these units. As you can imagine, prices vary dramatically based on design, functionality, etc – leases typically run $50,000 to $100,000 and purchase prices range from $50,000 to $1,500,000.
- Currently, Boxman Studios does not build individual homes. Prediction: They’ll get into this market soon (and the hotel market). Their marketing specialist told me that they receive several requests for this each day.
- Clients include big boys like Adidas, BMW, Chipotle, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Ford, Google, Nike, Oreo, Red Bull, TaylorMade, Hyundai and more. During my tour, I saw them building a very cool looking unit for Zaxby’s.
- Even cooler, Charlotte clients include: Charlotte Hounds, EpiCentre, UNC Charlotte, The Knight Foundation, Charlotte Center City Partners, Lawrence Group Neighboring Concepts.
- Boxman Studios is constantly on the lookout for talented fabricators, designers, marketers, engineers, planners, activators and logisticians.Â
- Current open jobs (5): Painter, Director of Manufacturing, Project Manager, Tour Manager and Sheet Metal Worker – view jobs here. Gotta love this combination of job roles.Â
- Want to look around yourself? You can schedule a tour here.
Let’s take a look around their office…
