Job summary:
The Communications and Marketing Specialist has primary responsibility for all organizational communications and branding, public relations, social media, content creation, and event support. This position will serve as a support role to the organization’s divisions as well as support the growth and effectiveness of the organization through the creation and dissemination of compelling messages, campaigns, and products. Some of this work will be done during non-business hours, since this person will be “on call” for media inquiries, website customer services/updates, and events.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
Digital marketing and social media

• Draft content, build awareness and promote organization using appropriate digital channels, including blogs and social networking platforms
• Develop social media strategy and regularly update appropriate social media platforms to engage with key audiences (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.)
• Monitor all social media outlets: pages, sites, blogs and post/respond on particular topics or in response to other post/comments
• Use communication vehicles (including donor management system) and online content management systems to disseminate and deliver messages and information
• Respond to stakeholder inquiries and comments on established channels in real time as necessary
• Cross-train other employees on electronic and social marketing-related functions
Public relations
• Identify significant media and public policy issues that can be leveraged to support organization’s mission, and create and implement communication plans to address them
• Develop and execute a holistic media outreach strategy
• Serve as lead point person on media interactions that promote and/or impact the organization
• Assist with briefing, speech-writing and preparation of speeches and/or media appearances, for staff as needed
• Oversee organizational response to inquiries about organization
Communications strategy and campaigns
• Collaborate with team members and direct response marketing company to develop “core” message and communications strategies that will broaden the organization’s reach and impact
• Manage communications timeline/calendar for all appeals, newsletters, digital marketing, social media campaigns, events, etc.
• Provide counsel, support, and recommendations on strategic communications for a variety of audiences
• Anticipate communication gaps with key stakeholders and partner with team members and key partners to resolve
• Serve as creative consultant for major events
Content creation and management
• Write, edit, and distribute clear and compelling articles, newsletters, success stories, communication materials, scripts, and other organization collateral both internally and externally
• Serve as executive editor of all print and online communications, including website
• Develop effective consistent, and relevant messaging in support of organization’s strategic plan, goals and priorities
• Manage photography and video projects
• Create communication processes, tools, and templates designed to simplify and streamline communication activities, decrease delivery time, and improve effectiveness of communications and message
• Manage updated print/photo/video library of landed and in-process clients and employers, case studies, organization events, board members, etc
• Create, maintain and regularly update library of staff bios for use in media outreach and community engagements
Development and executive support
• Aid in the review of grant proposals and other written projects as assigned
• Serve as lead point person on events for the organization including remarks, flow, video, theme, messaging
• Handles internal and external communication responses to crisis situations which affect organizational perception and reputation

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
• Associates degree and two years’ work experience or four-year college degree
• Work experience preferred
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Windows and Mac platform work environments
• Proficient in Photoshop, Canva, InDesign, Final Cut Pro, video editing software, and other products necessary to create print and web content
• Experience with website design and updating, specifically in Word Press
• Must understand how to use DSLR camera, video camera, microphones, and be proficient in all aspects of photography
• Appropriate verbal and written communication skills
• Must be able to meet intense deadlines, work under pressure, multi-task, and be on call
• Detail-oriented, with strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills
• Strong self-motivation, initiative, and the ability to work as a team member
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral
• Must be able to work in an environment of constant demands and frequent interruptions
• Must be able to spend the majority of time sitting, speaking, listening, and/or writing
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds
