Construction recently wrapped on Charlotte Country Day School’s 30,000 square foot Klein Aquatic Center.
The center includes an eight-lane, 25-yard competition pool and a five-lane, 25-yard warm-up/activity pool.
- Even better: It’s part of a new complex that also includes a new performance gym and weight room.
The impact: The new space will allow Country Day to expand its current PE program and sports team opportunities.
- For example, the Middle School and varsity swim teams can now practice on campus instead of traveling to a pool.
- There are also plans to offer swim lessons for younger students and swim-focused PE classes for students starting in Lower School.
Why it’s important: The Country Day campus was already impressive, and this new center certainly builds on that. It feels like a college campus thanks to state-of-the-art facilities and the emphasis on outdoor spaces.
Take note: Country Day is one of the first Charlotte private schools with an aquatic center. The school sees it as an exciting opportunity for its families and Charlotte as a whole.
Looking ahead: Meredith Eyler, CCDS’ aquatics manager, is responsible for partnering with Mecklenburg County to grow the sport of swimming in the community.
- “I’m excited to work with the staff to establish the facility as the premier aquatics resource in our community and benefit Country Day students for decades to come,” says Eyler.
We got a sneak peek of the new center. Here’s a look around:
