A new Peruvian and Japanese restaurant called YUNTA (yoon-ta) is open in South End.
The founders of Viva Chicken are bringing Nikkei cuisine to Charlotte— a popular cuisine concept known around the world that blends Peruvian ingredients and Japanese techniques.
- “Yunta” means “friends” in Quechua, the native, ancient language of the Incas of Peru.
Expect: A modern vibe and chill atmosphere, according to Randy Garcia, Co-founder of Viva Chicken and Yunta.
- The restaurant has a raw bar with Peruvian staples like ceviche, and Japanese favorites like handmade maki rolls.
Details: Yunta officially opens on March 15 for lunch from 11 am until 2:30 pm. It reopens for dinner at 5 pm.
- It’s located at 2201 South Blvd, right next to Lowe’s, where Five Guys used to be.
Editors note: This story was updated in March to reflect the restaurant’s new opening date.
