RMHC of GC is a 501(c)3 non-profit that provides support and services to families of sick or injured children receiving medical treatment in the Charlotte area. RMHC of GC operates a 28 bedroom House and a Family Room located in Hemby Children’s Hospital. In 2021, RMHC of GC served over 2,700 guests from 17 different states and 14 different countries.

Job summary:
The Marketing and Events Specialist, under the supervision of the Director of Marketing and Communications, will build awareness, both internally and externally, for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Charlotte mission of keeping families close by using a variety of communications tools/platforms. This position will also provide event support for RMHC of GC’s signature events such as, but not limited to, Jerseys & Jewels.

Essential functions:
Marketing and communications

• Support communication strategies
• Create innovative marketing campaign content, outside of general fundraising initiatives, as part of annual marketing strategy
• Work with Operations/Hospitality staff to identify families for stories, videos, speaking engagements, etc
• Work with Volunteer Manager to identify volunteers for stories, videos, speaking engagements, etc
Social media
• Work with Dir. of Marketing and Communications on annual social media calendar
• Create brand focused visuals by using Canva, Adobe Illustrator, etc
• Take pictures of donors, volunteers and staff where needed for social posts
• Use Hootsuite (or other scheduling tool) to effectively plan and promote events, RMHC of GC brand, and fundraising efforts
Newsletter
• Work with Dir. of Marketing and Communications on annual newsletter calendar
• Edit/create content for monthly newsletters (collaborate with other departments where needed)
Website technical support
• Timely update RMHC of GC website
• Research and follow SEO trends/etc
• Work with website hosting company when needed
Brand coordinator
• Work with Dir. of Marketing and Communications to make sure the RMHC of GC brand is represented appropriately both internal and external
• Update RMHC of GC Collateral (Business Cards, Thank You Cards, Birthday Cards, Etc.)
• Work with printing company when needed
Other
• Help coordinate house tours and other speaking engagements with the Dir. of Marketing and Communications and Community Ambassadors
• Help coordinate photo/video shoots at the House and at events
Event logistics
• Support the Dir. of Marketing and Communications for all RMHC of GC events and signature events (i.e. Jerseys & Jewels).
• Complete event-related tasks, as directed by Director of Marketing and Communications, such guest/participant communication creation/distribution, serve as a vendor liaison, set up/break down and other event logistics.

Community engagement:
Third-party events:
• Support third-party events and opportunities benefiting RMHC of GC
• Promote events accordingly on social, website, etc
Pop tab program
• Maintain Pop Tab donation lists and communicate with donors on a regular basis (create a communication/stewardship plan)
• Orchestrate annual Pop Tab Pandemonium event (May/June timeframe)
• Work with partners, like United Scrap Metal, on annual Recycle with RMHC event (October timeframe)
• Promote program through RMHC of GC communications mediums
Wish list
• Help maintain Amazon Wish List donations list by direction of the Operations Department
• Serve as contact for Wish List donations questions, etc

Additional responsibilities:
• Perform other related and assigned duties as necessary
• Seek opportunities for professional growth and development

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 2 years experience in marketing, communications, events, or public relations role
• Experience in a non-profit environment a plus

• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills; effectively communicate with staff, volunteers, media, and the public at large. Strong presentation and public speaking skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Relationship builder with the ability to “manage by influence”
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills; flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and deadlines
• Well organized, self-directed and able to manage time and multitask
• Strong computer and technology skills. (knowledge of design tools a plus)
