The Blakeney-based Cantonese restaurant plans to open a second location in the former Vivace space.

Why it matters: Owner Jason Cheung tells Axios Charlotte Open Rice aims to bring true Cantonese cuisine to Charlotte.

  • As a native of Hong Kong, Cheung says he’s motivated to share these dishes with others as a way of preserving his culture.
  • “If I don’t do it, the history will be gone,” Cheung says.

Location: 1100 Metropolitan Ave., Suite 100

Timeline: Cheung says he and his team are aiming to open in June or July of this year.

What to expect: The menu will be similar to the Blakeney location with the addition of a few new dishes. Cheung says having the bigger space at Metropolitan will allow them to offer more traditional Cantonese dishes.
