The Weekender is proudly presented by Speedway Christmas. This weekend is your last chance to experience Charlotte Motor Speedway’s four-mile drive-through holiday light show.

Hot Chocolate Hike at Reedy Creek Park and Nature Center: Go on a brisk hike then warm up with a cup of hot chocolate. 10-11am. Free. Details.


Moss Wall Workshop at PlantHouse: Learn how to work with moss to create a unique display to take home with you after class. Wine, local beer or non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase from the in-house bar. 6:30-8pm. $45. Details.

Hornets vs. Orlando Magic at the Spectrum Center: It’s game day in the hive so grab your ticket to root for the Hornets as they take on the Orlando Magic. 7pm. $15+. Details.

Mahler Symphony No. 9 at Belk Theater: Conductor Christopher Warren-Green leads the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Gustav Mahler’s Ninth Symphony. 7:30pm. $10-$156. Details.

UP a High Vibrational Party at Summit Seltzer: This event is geared toward creatives in the Charlotte community and will feature drink specials, vegan food catered by V Crave as well as live painting by artist Ana Alescia. 9pm to midnight. Free. Details.

Cars And Coffee at Charlotte Motor Speedway: Car owners and enthusiasts are invited to The Speedway to celebrate their shared passion for automobiles. This event will have prized classics, customs and hot rods and coffee will be offered to help you start your day. 8-11am. Free. Details.

South End Market at Atherton Mill: Spend the day exploring South End and make South End Farmer’s Market your first stop. You can find everything from local produce to handmade pasta. 8am to 1pm. Free. Details.

Charlotte Running Company Trail Race at the Whitewater Center: Register to run the 4-, 9- or 13-mile trail route along the tree-lined trails of the Whitewater Center. 8am. $40-$75. Details.

Raw Yoga with bloc. at Camp North End (1701 N. Graham Street): Join bloc. fitness studio for a free one-hour yoga session to help you clear your mind and recenter. 10-11am. Free. Details.

Dua Lipa Drag Brunch at Lost and Found: See how the queens do it like Dua at this Dua Lipa-themed Drag Brunch. A complimentary chef-catered brunch will be served before the show.  1pm. Free. Details.

Winter Wonderland Snow Ball at Skiptown: Skiptown is rolling out the red carpet for guests and their pups to enjoy an elegant evening of frolicking and festive decor. Expect a sparkling photo backdrop and music by T3 Entertainment. The attire is “prom-night-esque.” 4-10pm. Details.

500 Piece Puzzle Challenge at Luck Factory Games: Register a team of up to four people to face off in a puzzle-solving competition. The team with the quickest time will receive individual and team prizes and get to keep their competition puzzle. 4-7pm. $36 per team. Details.

Thirsty Beaver 14 Year Anniversary Party: The legendary Thirsty Beaver dive bar/saloon is celebrating its 14 year anniversary and wants the Charlotte community to join in on the festivities. There will be live music by The Loose Lugnuts. 8pm. Free. Details.

Heard It All Before Game Night at DUPP & SWAT: If you are a hip-hop/sample head, put your knowledge to the test and compete to be crowned sample champ. 9-10pm. Details.

Crystal Skies at Serj: Music selections for the night will be from Sugar Society & Disco Donnie. 10pm to 2am. $15-$25. Details.

Sip & Plant at Twigs & Figs: New to plants? This session will walk you through plant basics to help you become a confident plant parent. You’ll leave the session with a beautiful tropical plant, a suitable pot and plant care goodies. 3pm. $40. Details.

Food + Flix at Alchemy at C3 Lab: This new film series hosted by Alchemy at C3 Lab kicks off with a screening of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” Hot Dogs and nachos (with an Alchemy twist) will be available for purchase. Ticket sales will help support the Film Society’s “Independent Picture House” project, which will open in NoDa later this year. 7pm. $5. Details.

MLK Day 2022 “Community Dreams” (Online): Join the Gantt Center virtually for a day of engaging programs and workshops that will celebrate and honor the impact of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Events will be broadcast on their YouTube channel. 9am to 5pm. Free. Details.

28th Annual MLK Holiday Celebration (online): Tune in virtually to join The YMCA of Greater Charlotte and McCrorey YMCA for an MLK day celebration featuring spoken-word pieces, original dance performances and African drummers. 9am. Free. Details.

I Have a Dream 1M, 5K and 10K Virtual Races: Complete the distance of your choosing on MLK day or any following day in January. A portion of every registration fee will be donated to the Equal Justice Initiative. $16. Details.

Videography Basics with SkillPop: Join videographer Chris Rodarte as he walks you through the basics of filming and ways you can maximize video content for business or personal use. 7-8:30pm. $24. Details.

Atrium Health Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday Celebration: Tune in to WBTV for a TV special celebrating the impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 7pm. Free. Details.

Virtual MLK Family Day Celebration: The Levine Museum invites you to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a series of performances including singing, dancing, spoken word performances and historical insights. 7-8pm. Free. Details.

Club Heart Throb at Stroke: Each Monday, Stroke Putt converts into Club Heart Throb and features music from guest DJs and music producers. On the DJ deck this week is Ariel “DOMii” Dominguez and Chris “DJ Trife.” 7-11pm. Free. Details.

Find Your Muse Open Mic at The Evening Muse: Take to the stage to perform and connect with other local musicians. Sign-ups start at 7:15pm, show starts at 7:30pm. 7pm. $5. Details.
