Job summary:
Plan and manage a dynamic variety of Blumenthal Performing Arts (BPA) events that may include concerts, attractions, speakers, and fine arts events.

Develop and execute plans for a designated niche of presented programs that balance artistic ambition with strong financial management. Research, view and evaluate possible talent to present.

Negotiate deal terms and contracts. Cultivate agents, artists, and producers.

Work productively with other Programming staff, consultants and other partners who will be working similarly on other niches of BPA Programming.

Responsible for advancing and event management for designated events, as well as coordination with other event managers.

Processes settlements for designated events and works closely with accounting on the creation of the master budget for events along with keeping it up to date.

Develop and maintain strong relationships and regular communication with colleagues in other venues who book similar acts, and who may participate in block booking.

Work cooperatively with local arts groups to minimize overlap and competition for talent, focusing to fill niches that are underrepresented in the Charlotte market.

Function successfully in a very fast-paced environment that requires discipline in planning and execution, good communication with others inside and outside BPA to troubleshoot problems and plan in detail.

• Research ideas for artists and shows to be presented or produced by BPA based on tour sales history and pricing, as well as any previous BPA history
• Research what our peers at similar venues are presenting, and what is succeeding or not succeeding elsewhere
• Research changes in consumer interests and emerging trends that help us know what the public is interested in seeing on BPA stages; this includes not only when new artists emerge, but how often artists return, and when interest in an artist/genre has diminished
• Key liaison for BPA with booking agents. Cultivate agents, artists, and co-production partners for BPA- presented events
• Travel to other venues to evaluate and preview shows
• Pursue block-booking and co-production opportunities with local, regional, and national peers
• Develop budget and ticket pricing to evaluate proposed events
• Negotiate deal terms and contracts
• Prepare and review deal memos, contracts, riders and other legal documents for review and approval of the BPA President
• Serves as event manager for designated performances. This includes advancing the needs for a show, as well as onsite event management when the show occurs.
• Processes event settlements for designated events
• Works closely with accounting on the creation of the master budget for events along with keeping it up to date
• Assist in the management of the Ungerboeck scheduling system to make sure that calendaring of events and holds are done in an accurate and timely manner
• Work with the Education Department to develop and implement educational activities that enhance the public’s understanding of the production and/or art form
• Work cooperatively with local arts groups to encourage cooperation and minimize competition and overlap in program selection and content
• Assist the Development Department in cultivating donors through backstage visits and assistance in arranging a limited number of special events
• Regularly attend performances at BPA to evaluate the public’s reaction to events BPA presents
• Represent BPA by attending professional conferences, workshops and meetings including groups such as TIPCON, and similar trade and professional associations
• Nurture positive, cooperative relationships with local artists and arts organizations
• Seek out opportunities to collaborate and minimize competition and duplication
• Respond in a timely manner to inquiries from those within as well as outside the organization
For events booked by Booking Manager:
• Create individual show budgets.
• Create Ticket Set-up for Support Services Ticketing Department
• Work with the Marketing Department on marketing, promotion, and sales plans to assure that communication and positioning of the show are accurate and effective

• Requires a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• A minimum 5 years of event or artistic planning experience
• Ability to multi-task on various projects
• Strong communication skills
• Must be able to manage a team of people working on the same event
• Must be extremely detailed oriented
