The makers of Reid’s Fine Foods present to you: The Salted Melon Market & Eatery.

Why it matters: People who live, work, and shop in South End will have another healthy and convenient spot to eat.
  • “From a morning coffee to a healthy lunch, from picking up pantry essentials to meeting friends for dinner and drinks, Salted Melon is curated for the South End consumer,” says COO Thomas Coker Jr.
Details: Salted Melon will offer all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • There’ll also be an espresso bar, bakery, and broth bar made locally by Brave Broth.
  • The 7,000 square foot market and restaurant will live on the ground floor of the Lowe’s tower at 100 West Worthington Ave.

Backstory: Reid’s was founded in 1928 on Morehead Street, then opened a second location on Providence Road in Myers Park in 1931. Ownership changed hands in 1984 and again in 2010, when it moved to Selwyn Avenue.

  • Now it has locations in SouthPark and Uptown, too.

“Reid’s has grown hand in hand with Charlotte and we have been watching the exciting growth of South End,” Coker Jr. says. “With that, we’ve recognized the opportunity to combine the expertise of Reid’s with a concept curated for the modern consumer base in South End.”

What’s next: The opening date for Salted Melon will be announced in spring of 2022.
