Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications

Job summary:
Key member of the senior leadership team who leads the charge on all museum marketing, branding, brand awareness, media relations, internal and external communications, advertising, as well as many key community partnerships. Manages a comprehensive integrated marketing program and team that effectively communicates the mission and cultural leadership of the museum to a broad range of constituencies. Supports exhibition and programming initiatives undertaken by the museum. Serves as primary editor of all external marketing publications and digital communications, and enforcer of the museum style guide and editorial standards.

• High-level strategizing for marketing and communications for the museum
• Develop marketing and advertising plans for exhibitions, programming, and overall museum outreach. Work with communications and media relations project manager to secure strategic media partnerships
• Mentor and manage employees within the Marketing & Communications department, including two graphic designers, a digital marketing strategists, and communications and media relations project manager
• Supervise the production of 400+ print and digital pieces of collateral per year, including but not limited to: advertisements (print and digital), brochures, banners, posters, e-newsletters, invitations, annual reports, fliers, signage (print and digital), annual reports, mailers, and magazines for external distribution
• Provide communications counsel and support for the president and CEO, as well as other senior leaders. Develop remarks, talking points scripts and briefing materials for president and CEO, as well as others, for key outreach, communications and media opportunities, as well as internal scripts for promotional materials
• Serve as museum spokesperson, developing proactive and reactive communications strategies that address issues affecting the company’s reputation
• Manage the annual budget for the marketing and communications department
• Oversee the biannual member magazine, Inspired
• Serve as final eyes on all print and digital content produced for the museum, ensuring the highest levels of clarity, accuracy and brand adherence
• Oversees the management of, The Mint Museum from Home and other digital initiatives designed to grow audiences, revenue, and membership
• Attend all Board of Trustees meetings, as a representative of the Marketing & Communications team, presenting on notable news, initiatives, and key media wins
• Oversee media relations, in conjunction with communications and media relations project manager. Secure regional, national, and international media coverage, while tracking and capturing media hits
• Work comprehensively across all museum departments to ensure effective outreach, including key revenue generators such as The Mint Museum Store and the Special Events team
• Work collaboratively with all departments to ensure consistent standards in graphic design and copy editing of internal and external museum texts, signage, and other public-facing products
• Serves as project manager of grants for communications initiatives

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, public relations, journalism or a comparable field of study.

Professional experience:
• Minimum five to seven years of marketing and communications experience
• Experience with handling media relations and crisis management
• Excellent communicator with strong technical aptitude who stays abreast of technology and social trends
• Must be very articulate, collaborative, have excellent written and oral communication skills
• Must be effective in prioritizing tasks and responsibilities with the ability to come up with design comparable in a short period of time
• Extremely creative and enthusiastic team player
• Excellent eye for visuals and aesthetics and problem-solving abilities
• Customer/guest service mindset
• Art museum experience preferred
