Assistant Director of Compensation & Employment

Responsibilities:
Compensation and position management
• Manage the college’s compensation system to ensure fair and competitive compensation for staff
• Work with the internal staff hiring team to identify an appropriate hiring range for new candidates based on position pay grade and candidate experience
• Maintain and assist in the preparation of job descriptions for each position in the organization; ensure descriptions accurately reflect the work being performed by incumbents
• Assess new and existing jobs and their respective duties to determine classification as exempt or nonexempt and appropriate salary range
• Benchmark jobs against survey data and other market intelligence to determine competitive compensation ranges for each position
• Prepare and present summary reports of job analysis and compensation analysis information
• Create and define new position numbers, position groups and position classes in Ellucian Banner
• Audit position data to ensure accuracy and consistency
• Oversee position approval process
• Liaise with the Academic Affairs and Deans leadership team and faculty search committees on faculty compensation guidelines
• Participate in various salary surveys
• Analyze data for equity issues
Employment
• Co-manage the applicant tracking system by overseeing the posting of all faculty openings, updating postings, and changing applicant statuses as necessary
• Assist search committee chairs and the employment team with strategies for building rich and diverse applicant pools
• Share responsibility for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
• Maintain and update the Employment at Davidson external website
• Develop and maintain employment branding image to attract a diverse and qualified candidate pool
• Liaison to faculty search committees
• Consult on immigration questions and assist faculty committees and new hires with immigration procedures
• Oversee social networking strategy and promote open positions
• Serve as a back-up as needed, in staff or student employment matters
Training
• Provide guidance and training to hiring managers regarding interviewing/selection procedures to help ensure consistency and fairness in the hiring process
• Train managers on recruitment and negotiation skills to improve their ability to attract and retain high-performing employees
• Assist with training of HR employment team members
Talent management & compensation software
• Manage employment and compensation-related systems
• Manage applicant tracking and background screening systems, employee data related to hiring and onboarding
• Document system processes and manage relationships with vendors
• Serve as a lead in the implementation of new functionality for related systems
Special projects
Projects assigned by supervisor based on need and interest of the successful candidate.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• 5 years relevant work experience
• Demonstrated strong written and oral communications skills
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills
• Analytical ability and negotiation skills
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
• Intermediate level of competency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
• Ability to quickly achieve competence in new technology and to train others
• Experience in working successfully and comfortably with diverse populations
• Experience with databases, particularly HRIS systems
• Positive attitude, strong sense of humor, and commitment to working successfully as part of a team dedicated to the mission of the college
• Knowledge of employment law and general human resources functions
Desired skills:
• PHR or SHRM certification
• CCP certification
• Experience with PayScale MarketPay Software
• Experience with Ellucian Banner is a plus
• Previous experience in Higher Education
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus
