Verse & Vino, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation’s signature annual fundraiser, is happening on November 4.

The event will feature New York Times bestselling authors, at-home party packages, a co-branded beer with Town Brewing Co. (to be released at a viewing party), and more.

  • According to the Verse & Vino website, the event is a “celebration of reading, writing and the joy of libraries.

Why it’s important: This event is a major fundraiser for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation, which helps support the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s services and programs.

First things first: Last year, Verse & Vino was reimagined into a virtual event due to the pandemic. It was a success, so this year’s event will be a hybrid of virtual streaming options and in-person gatherings.

  • New this year is a viewing party at Town Brewing Co. with a beer brewed just for Verse & Vino (more on that below).

The goal is to give guests plenty of options so they can experience the event exactly as they want to — whether that means curling up on the couch or heading out on the town.

There are five featured authors, plus a bonus debut author:

There are lots of ways to experience Verse & Vino — here’s a quick guide to four of them.

More info: Town Brewing Co. brewed the beer — called CommonSpark — specifically for Verse & Vino. It’s “crisp and approachable with soft malt character balanced by American hops, fermented with ale yeast at cooler temperatures,” according to head brewer Brian Quinn.

  • “We’re really big on the philanthropic side of the business — we want to be a force for good within the community,” Quinn said when asked why he decided to brew a beer for the library.

After Verse & Vino, the beer will be available in grocery stores, and a portion of the proceeds will support the Library Foundation’s CommonSpark campaign.
