As a reminder, the people behind Midnight Diner in South End have decided to open a new location in the EpiCentre (in the old La Tagliatella spot next to Mortimer’s) and are calling it RedEye Diner. Perfect.

Eddie South, the current GM of Midnight Diner, will be promoted to president of operations; Chef Lee, who crafted the Midnight Diner, will be in charge of the menu at RedEye.

Mimi Williams of Starr Design told us, “We were looking to feed off the energy and excitement of the EpiCentre, while creating a distinct and relevant space. We began by thinking about what customers would truly want out of an uptown diner – and used that to intentionally design a restaurant that people can truly connect with.”

This location will have a full bar, operate 24/7 and will continue the diner vibe set by Midnight Diner. I am a big fan of the food at Midnight Diner so this is all welcome to me. Ready to see this? Take a look…

I love the exterior and interior and their throwback look to old school diners. It adds a bit of character and personality that the EpiCentre is generally missing. Awesome job by Brian Dominick with the diner and Starr Design, who seem to have nailed the look.

RedEye will provide a lot of things uptown needs badly: A great (non-chain) breakfast spot, somewhere open past banking hours that’s not a bar and some vibrancy to the EpiCentre. I think this will be a great spot to take out-of-towners wanting a cool vibe as well as a place for locals to hit for any meal of the day.

This will no doubt be packed upon opening, serving breakfast crowds, lunch crowds, dinner crowds and drunk, I mean late-night, crowds. I can’t wait to try it out in early 2016.
