Software Developer

Founded in 1951, the National Board of Examiners in Optometry is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit whose examinations are universally accepted for optometric licensure in the United States and internationally. NBEO’s mission is to serve the public and the profession of Optometry by developing, administering, scoring, and reporting results of valid examinations that assess competence. NBEO has a full-time staff of 18 and utilizes over 100 optometrists as subject matter experts nationwide in support of its examination programs. NBEO is one of the few national boards in any profession with a repertoire of exams that include computer-based tests, an advanced competence exam, and clinical skills test using standardized patients at the National Center of Clinical Testing in Optometry.

This role is an onsite position based in Charlotte, NC.

• Gathers feedback from design and technical staff on Website development needs
• Builds user interface applications and back-end databases using various programming and scripting languages
• Integrates data from various back-end services and databases
• Creates and maintains software and process documentation
• Responsible for maintaining, expanding, and scaling organizational software and websites
• Responds in a timely manner to service issues and requests
• Assists in the planning and delivery of software platforms across multiple products
• Engineers software solutions wherever possible
• Author’s complex web pages
• Assists in project planning and website design
• Creates prototypes and functional specifications for software projects
• Creates technical methodologies for engineering solutions to web-based development problems
• Determines new web technologies to utilize, such as browsers, languages, and plug-ins, based on company’s needs
• Conceptualizes long-term needs of web development and plans and manages related projects
• Makes suggestions on creating web-based technical standards for specific websites and the company as a whole
• Releases examination scores to state boards, schools/colleges, and candidates as needed
• Assists with Helpdesk tickets as directed by the Director of Information Technology
• Assists with network upgrade and management as needed
• Provides support to other IT members
• Assists with special projects at the direction of the Director of IT in conjunction with the Executive Director

• Bachelors or fifth-year college or university program certificate or university in MIS, CSIS, or other computer science related degree
• 3 – 5 years of experience in Microsoft Technologies -.NET 4.0/4.5, C#/VB.Net, ASP.NET, MVC
• Website development: Coldfusion, C#, ASP.NET, MVC, SQL Server, Javascript, HTML, CSS
• Experience with SQL stored procedures, commands, queries, etc
