Associate Editor
Overview:
At betterpet.com, we help over 4 million readers make smarter, healthier decisions for their pets. Our mission is to provide clear, medically sound advice distinguished by a focus on responsible pet parenting. We’re looking for an Associate Editor who understands how to craft compelling content to join our team.
As an Associate Editor, you’ll work closely with our Senior Editor and the team of writers to publish engaging, well-researched, evidence-based, and empathetic content that educates and connects with pet parents. This includes tailoring headlines, updating stories, and working with our team to stay on top of overall editorial goals.
Responsibilities:
• Assign, edit, and publish new and updated content according to the specific editorial standards of our brand (we hope you’re a fan of Oxford commas)
• Collaborate with the Senior Editor, freelance writers, and medical reviewers to move each piece through the editorial workflow
• Aid the Senior Editor in content calendar planning and creating briefs for all articles
• Help update and improve existing content
• Review and incorporate medical reviewer comments and revisions
• Manage publication timelines and adjust priorities as needed based on stakeholder needs
• Be responsible for hitting monthly publication and traffic goals
About you:
• At least 1 year of editing experience or 2-3 years of relevant writing experience (preferably for a digital marketing agency or publication)
• Experience creating or editing content based on SEO concepts and best practices
• You care deeply about the content organization and doing research
• Excellent skills in meeting deadlines, managing multiple projects and prioritizing workload
• Demonstrated ability to work closely with a team
• Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Knowledge and interest in one of the following areas: Pets (specifically dogs or cats), Healthcare (we cover lots of pet conditions and illnesses), You’re comfortable learning Google Docs, Asana, and Slack (we will train you)
