Job summary:
Responsible for overseeing the museum operations for Science and Nature, including the personnel who work in the museums, budgets, policies and procedures, safety compliance, and customer service. The Sr. Director reports to the Vice President of Science and Nature to ensure operations and programs are meeting the strategic plan and annual goals of the organization. This individual works in collaboration with the Sr. Director of STEM and Museum Experiences to ensure that all experiences are exceptional experiences of the highest quality, that represent innovation and best practice in the industry, and are good stewards of the organization’s resources.

Responsibilities:
• Oversees the day-to-day operations of both the Science and Nature Museums
• Works closely with the Vice President of Science and Nature and Sr. Director of STEM and museum experiences to ensure that all guest experiences are of the highest quality and reflect the learning philosophy of Discovery Place
• Supervises the managers of science and nature and the manager of camps and birthday parties
• Maintains quality assurance of museum operations and experiences with the goal of increasing attendance, revenue and growth
• Works across other departments to ensure maximization of talent, resources, and capabilities. Ensures the Science and Nature division is effectively communicating and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders on events, shared resources, exhibits, equity, and safety
• Routinely serves as the Manager on Duty (MOD) for both Science and Nature as required
• Provides ongoing training and professional development to team, meets with direct reports on a bi-weekly basis and completes evaluations for personnel growth

Qualifications:
• BS/BA
• 8 years + experience in operations and customer service, preferably in museums or entertainment venues
• Knowledge of informal education and museum practices preferred
• Demonstrated experience running or operating educational programs for participants of all ages, knowledge of rules and regulations for ADA compliance, working with minors, etc
• Experience developing and managing large budgets with multiple revenue channels and expenses
• Strong customer service background, prior experience with POS or ticketing systems, extensive cash handling and retail experience
• Be able to communicate effectively in both written and oral communications. Must be comfortable with public speaking and presentation skills
• Demonstrated effective leadership with previous experience leading large dynamic teams
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Availability to work outside of traditional business hours
• Must be able to deliver on projects and assigned duties on time, within budget, with high quality
• Highly motivated, committed, production-oriented self-starter with strong organizational skills, especially planning, coordination, time management and communication skills

Supervisory responsibilities:
Supervising a dynamic team of 15+ individuals, including 3 direct reports (Managers of Science and Nature, Manager of Camps and Birthday Parties).

Work environment:
• Public venues (indoor and outdoor), museum setting, office
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
